Description

An American Tin 'Hollywood Racing Pig' Bench

20th Century

outfitted with racing googles and a custom-made red corduroy pad "saddle" strapped on the seat

17 ½ x 13 x 60 ½ in.; 44.5 x 33 x 153.7 cm

This full-bodied tin pig sculpture served as a teasing "seat of shame" for Hollywood executives and producers upon being late for meetings with Paul Newman in his Westport, Connecticut office. This charming folk art sculpture turned bench is a reflection of Paul and Joanne's light-hearted humor and fondness for kitsch. Paul outfitted the pig with a custom corduroy “saddle” and racing goggles, dubbing it as “the racing pig” in line with Paul's love of cars.
