Stevens' energetic bronzes, inspired by Italian renaissance form and movement, were originally conceived to decorate firedogs, made for Messrs Henry E. Hoole & Co, Sheffield. Plaster versions of the present figures are in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (inv. no. A.26:1-1911).
