Cesare Lapini specialized in elaborately carved allegorical subjects and genre figures of children, including the present marble. This finely carved sculpture of a Fisherboy is a good example of Lapini's work that demonstrates his skill in conveying traditional Italian costume. The present figure relates to other unique compositions of children by Lapini, including La Serenata, and Quanto Ti Vo' Bene.
