Folio (295 x 188mm.), 2 volumes bound in one, 33 full page engraved plates and maps, some folding, additional woodcut illustrations in the text, contemporary panelled calf, a few plates shaved to margins,rebacked, one cover detached, the other becoming so, bindings slightly worn


This comprehensive work describes the travels of Jean-Baptiste Tavernier (1605-1689), the French gem merchant and traveller. He took several journeys, eventually (according to his own account) covering 60,000 leagues over the course of 6 voyages to Persia and India between 1630 and 1668.


This work is divided into 2 volumes and 6 parts, comprising:
