This rare publication presents treaties, engagements and sanads relating to India, Aden and the south western coast of Arabia, the Arab principalities in the Persian Gulf, Muscat (Oman), Buluchistan and the North-West Frontier Province.
Charles Umpherston Aitchison (1832-1896), went to India in September 1856. In 1865 he took up administrative work in the Punjab, where he was 'extremely industrious and thorough in his work ... he commenced a compilation entitled A Collection of Treaties, Engagements, and Sanads relating to India and neighbouring countries, which was issued in 11 volumes between 1862 and 1892; each treaty was prefaced by a detailed historical narrative' (ODNB).
