Vijay Shinde

Vijay Shinde was born in 1958 in Sholapur, Maharashtra and attended the Sir J. J. School of Art in Bombay, graduating in 1982. Though his early works were figurative, his later and more advanced works shifted towards a nonrepresentational aesthetic. Inspired by Indian values, ethics and philosophy, Shinde incorporates them into abstract relationships on the canvas. The present lot demonstrates Shinde’s tremendous ability to use light and dark space, and his control of colour and line. Shinde’s artistic expression essentially reflects his sensitivity to the world.

Shinde has won many accolades, namely the National Award Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, 1984, Biennale Award, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, 1986, Fellowship – Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 1987, Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar, State Government of Maharashtra, 1990 and Senior Fellowship Award, Government of India, New Delhi, 2000.
