Description
Jamie Reid
Sex Pistols at the 100 Club, 31 August 1976
(240 x 178mm.)
This promotional handbill for a gig on 31 August 1976 marks the earliest known use by Reid of the "ransom-style" lettering that became integral to the band's visual style – the resulting Sex Pistols logo was a cornerstone of Reid’s design work for the band. The band's own songs - all written over the previous months - are also listed in this bill and this aspect of the handbill was later reproduced on the covers of the Glitterbest press kits (see lots 8, 13 and 27). The photograph of Rotten and Jones used for this handbill is by Ray Stevenson.
