Signed Joshu junin Narishige saku (made by Narishige, a resident of Kozuke Province)

Edo period, 17th century


the sixty-two plate iron bowl with small standing rivets, five-stage shakudotehen kanamono, plain black lacquered mabisashi [peak] with hammered brow, stenciled leather fukigaeshi [turnbacks] applied with copper-gilt kashiwa mon [oak leaf crests], the black and gold lacquer five-tiered shikoro [neck guard] with close-spaced iroiro odoshi [variegated lacing], gold lacquer maedate [forecrest] in the form of stylised leaves 


The bowl to peak: 25 cm., 9⅞ in.

The shikoro to peak: 31 cm., 12¼ in.
