A Kaga tatehagi okegawa-do gusoku [armour]
Edo period, the helmet 17th century, the armour 18th century
the twenty-eight plate russet iron bowl with standing rivets, seven-stage copper-gilt tehenkanamono, fitted with a copper gilt so-fukurin [ornamental border], gilded leather mabisashi [peak] embossed with pine motif, the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] similarly decorated and applied with copper-gilt fuji-tomoe mon [tomoe form wisteria crest], four-tiered black lacquer shikoro [neck guard] with kebiki odoshi [close-spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, the russet iron ressei mempo [face mask with fierce expression] forged with deep wrinkles, flared nostrils and open mouth, detachable nose plate, broad horse hair moustache, black lacquer interior, two-tiered yodaregake [throat protector] laced in stenciled doeskin decorated with cherry blossoms, the russet iron do [cuirass] with five? solid plates riveted together and hinged in two pieces, six tier sode [shoulder guards] with sugake odoshi [spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, chainmail kote [sleeves], seven tassets of five tiered kusazuri [skirt], black lacquer and silk brocade haidate [thigh guards], shino-suneate [shin guards]
The cuirass to helmet: 85 cm., 33½ in. high (when mounted)
