A Large Israeli Silvered-Metal Architectural Hanukkah Lamp, Shlomo Ohana, Jerusalem, dated 1990


Arcaded temple form with lion-form lamps with ruby glass fonts, engraved with inscriptions, masonry and tilework, the upper gallery mounted with two towers, centered by servant light and with two ewers, signed on backplate


Height 18½in. (47 cm)

With the following Hebrew inscriptions:

At the top: “These candles are holy,” with “Guardian of the Wall” on either side.

Below, the first stanza of Ma‘oz Tsur, part of the Hanukkah liturgy.

On either side, towers bearing these inscriptions: “In honor of the Holy Sabbath” in front and “A great miracle happened there” (a reference to the Hanukkah miracle) on either side.

On the backplate at head, as well as at the base: “Handcrafted by S. Ohana, Jerusalem, m.s., 1990.”
