The brand, A Bathing Ape ('BAPE') was founded by Nigo (Tomoaki Nagao), one of the pioneers of the streetwear movement. Recognised for its military camouflage patterns and urahara aesthetic, the brand favours vibrant colours and bold graphics in their streetwear design and lifestyle accessories. Through early collaborations with international brands such as Stüssy and adidas, BAPE quickly established itself as one of Japan’s leading cultural trendsetters.

This pair is not only an extremely rare pair of BAPE x KAWS FS-029 Chompers from the height of BAPEs influence, but is also from Nigo’s personal collection. Nigo is, to this day, one of the most relevant international personalities in the design, fashion and art world. He has collaborated with a wide range of powerhouse fashion brands such as Uniqlo, Louis Vuitton, and is now the creative director of Kenzo, and has worked with icons like Pharrell Williams, Futura, Kanye West and Virgil Abloh. He is also a world renowned art collector with private museums and ateliers in Japan where industry insiders are often invited.

This particular piece was designed in collaboration with American artist & designer KAWS, whose work features heavily in Nigo’s art collection. KAWS has risen through the ranks to become one of the most important contemporary artists of this era, and these rare and limited pieces are highly sought after by collectors of both artists.
