Claire Sherman's primary body of paintings consists of landscapes painted with oil on canvas. Their subject matter ranges from ice glaciers and ominous islands to rocky terrain and foliage. Sherman’s practice is in line with the ongoing centuries-old philosophical discourse on the sublime. She cites as influences the writings of Edmund Burke, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-François Lyotard, and their discussions of the sublime as it relates to the beauty and abundance of the natural world.

Exhibitions of Sherman’s work have been held at DC Moore Gallery, New York; Kavi Gupta, Chicago; and Good Children Gallery, New Orleans among others.
