the rectangular order pierced with crowned holy initials: SMRT

triangular order: 68mm., 2 3/4 in.

rectangular order: 62mm., 2 1/5 in.

The monogram SMRT, which equates to Santa Maria Regina Toledo, is associated with the Cult of the Immaculate Conception and would be worn by female members of the religious order. Compare with the pilgrims badge in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. 60.179.1) illustrated in C. The triangular devotional pendant can be compared by the drawing dating to 1617 illustrated in the Llibres de Passanties, Museo de Historia de la Ciudad, Barcelona, illustrated in La Joyería Espanola de Felipe II a Alfonso XIII, Madrid, 1998, p. 146.
