This particularly finely executed cameo, with beautifully preserved surface polish, is close to North Italian 16th- and 17th- century engraved gems. Compare with the slightly later, more Mannerist, intaglio with the entombment, from the collection of Kurfürsten Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz, published in I.
