The “sonriente” figures are aptly named for their obvious gleefulness, but their true meaning and usage remain unknown. These mold-made figures of both men and women are often dressed in finely woven garments that provide valuable information on long-lost textiles that reflected social status and identity. This figure wears a headband with the popular waterbird, and her tunic and skirt are deeply patterned geometric designs.
