The Property of the Marquess of Lothian

A Victorian assembled suite of fireplace furniture, second half 19th century


comprising a large brass curb fender with integral andirons and steel base, a pair of Louis XIV style brass grate supports, an early Victorian polished steel composite set of fire irons and a George III polished steel grate scraper

20cm. high, 182cm. wide, 33.5cm. deep; 8in., 5ft. 11¾in., 1ft. 1¼in.

Probably William Schomberg Kerr, 8th Marquess of Lothian (1832 - 1870)
Newbattle Abbey, Midlothian, Inventory, 1901, p.78, in the Organ Hall; ‘Brass rod fender, with rests & steel sole' There are a number of fire irons and fenders described in the inventory of which this lot may have been a part of.
