Lee Miller’s Surgical Gloves Are Sterilised and Dried on Stands, Churchill Hospital, Oxford illustrated the first article that Miller wrote for British Vogue. The article, titled ‘American Army Nurses,’ appeared in the May 1943 issue of the magazine. Miller had been working for Vogue as a fashion photographer since 1939, and the article marked her transition to published writer.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Fitzrovia Chapel in London, where the exhibition Lee Miller: Nurses is on view until 5 June, 2022. To commemorate the exhibition, this image was newly released as a limited-edition platinum-palladium print. The present print is number one from the edition of 10 and is accompanied by half of the platinum internegative, which was sliced once the edition was completed.
