Where acquired by the father of the present owner.

We are grateful to Prof. Nicola Spinosa for endorsing the attribution to Pietro Bardellino on the basis of digital images. He dates the work to Bardellino's formative years, around 1750, when his style was influenced by Francesco de Mura (1696–1782). 


A comparable version of the subject by the artist, horizontal in format and on copper, is listed on the Zeri archive.1
