Description
Manner of Francesco Guardi, 20th century
Venice, a view of the Bacino di San Marco and the Doge's Palace; and Venice, a view of the Rialto Bridge and the Riva del Vin
a pair, both oil on canvas, unlined
each unframed: 60 x 79.8 cm.; 23⅝ x 31½ in.
each framed: 70.3 x 90 cm.; 27¾ x 35½ in.
The former is a pastiche of Guardi's numerous views of the Rialto bridge which he painted over the course of his career, two of which are in the National Gallery of Art, Washington1 and in the Accademia Carrara, Bergamo.2 The latter is based, with differences in some of the details, on a painting by Guardi in the Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.3
