This painting by Joseph (or Jef) van der Veken, the Belgian art restorer and forger who specialised in reproducing works resembling those of Early Netherlandish artists, is a pastiche of Rogier van der Weyden's style. Van der Veken reused the same baldacchino as is found here in another pastiche of the Annunciation, formerly in the Emden collection, sold at Lepke, Berlin, 9 November 1915, lot 119.1
