The present work is one of at least three drawings discussed by Popham in relation to Parmigianino's etching of the same subject, to which all three similarly correspond. The other two drawings are in the Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart and at Chatsworth. Popham describes our drawing as appearing "to be a copy, probably from the Chatsworth drawing".
