Fluorite (Alien Eye) with Beryl
Erongo Mountains, Karibib, Erongo Region, Namibia
6 by 3¾ by 1¾ inches (15.2 x 9.5 x 4.4 cm).
Numerous modified cubes of emerald green fluorite with black phantoms that create the “Alien Eye” effect, accentuated by colorless goshenite beryls.
The “Alien Eye” effect comes from the contrast between the main body of the green fluorite and the black phantoms that provide an otherworldly glow resembling the eyes of the classic “alien” face.
Also known as fluorspar, fluorite is often transparent, making it valuable in the production of various types of glass. The mineral form of calcium fluoride, fluorite takes on various hues due to impurities, with the emerald green specimen offered here as a prime example.
