Description
Calcite on Native Copper
Quincy Mine, Houghton County, Michigan
2 by 2 by 1½ inches (5.1 x 5.1 x 3.8 cm). Custom lucite base.
A group of terminated calcite crystals on a bed of copper crystals. The calcite reflect off the included copper, creating a unique chatoyant effect.
Calcite is a triagonal carbonate mineral found primarily in association with limestone. When placed under warm lighting this particular specimen's aesthetic and sharply defined rhombohedral crystals display a brilliant pink with orange tones, as seen in the specimen offered here.
