This intimate domestic scene shows four generations of Algerian women at work together, most likely in a local workshop. Weavers were a favourite subject among the Orientalists. Frederick Arthur Bridgman, Marie-Aimée Lucas-Robiquet, Alexis Delahogue and Gustave Guillaumet all painted similar scenes set in Algeria and Tunisia.
