Jimoh Akolo was a founding member of the Nigerian Zaria Art Society (1958-62), along with Yusuf Grillo and Bruce Onobrakpeya. Akolo studied under the tutelage of Dennis Duerden, author of The Invisible Present and former education officer in the Nigerian Colonial Service.
The reverse of the work exhibits a label bearing the inscription Duerden JAN68 as well as a paper receipt adhered to the back from Langton Gallery dated to 19 May 1973.
