the cartouche inscribed with the arms of de la Tour family, alternatively known as Thurm of Southern Austria

height 10¾ in.; 27.3cm.

Sotheby's London, 9 July 2008, lot 116
Roy Ysla, Striking Figures, Figurative Door Knockers from the Renaissance to the Twentieth Century, 2019, p. 93, no. 167.

Stylistically influenced by the work of Niccolo Roccatagliata, compare the present piece with the door knocker formerly in the Figdor Collection illustrated by Planiscig (op. cit.). Note also the flanking lions holding a shell beneath, attributed to a Venetian workshop of circa 1600 and illustrated by Krahn.
