Very few details are known of the life of the Dutch still-life artist, Johannes Borman, who was active in Leiden and Amsterdam from about 1653-1659. This small work, simply composed and perfectly balanced, is exemplative of the types of fruit and banquet still lifes for which Borman is most well-known.
