In Polly Habuzin’s oeuvre, colour plays both the lead and supporting roles, occupying the fore-, middle- and background in equal measure. Colour becomes an event itself when it invites the spectator to sense its magical atmosphere and feel its materiality. The paintings form their own universes which move us emotionally independently of any concrete and symbolic intentions. They vibrate, they glow, they live. The paint is applied in numerous layers which are partially stripped away again and again throughout the process of creation. In this way, the painting gradually matures through overlaying and interlacing of planes and structures. It is not just the varied shades and hues which relate to each other in this way but also the different stages of creation. Like layers in archeological excavations, each work holds its past in the present.
