The gradations of deep to pale indigo blues suggest a mountainous landscape veiled by morning mist (asagiri). Displaying deft control of the dyeing process, Fukumoto imbues the vista with a delicate variety of hue. To provide a textured quality to her wall hanging, Fukumoto loosens the linen threads by brushing the fabric when still wet from the dye.
