Denis Hamilton (1918-1988) was a close friend of Ian Fleming and the editor-in-chief and chairman of The Times newspaper. This copy of Thunderball is inscribed "To C.D. and the smaller C.D.s", the nickname from his full name, Charles Denis Hamilton, and the ‘smaller’ C.D.s being his children. The two men worked as journalists at Kemsley Newspapers and Fleming contributed to the Sunday Times throughout Hamilton’s tenure as editor. Hamilton advised Fleming on a number of his books. Fleming gave Hamilton a signed first edition of every book of the James Bond series.
