款識：

The sentinel hermit’s single strange stone was a portal. Like the gourd, or the cave that led to the peach blossom spring, he could step into it and off the stage of time. He would recount his journeys to me upon his return, telling of the peaks he had climbed, the thousand foot falls that patiently carved the gorge, the crystal ponds he had fished and the strange beings he had encountered. So full of wonder were his tales that I recall them clearly all these centuries later. I lift my brush to conjure up the events he recounted so that I too can disappear into the gourd.

Inscribed by the Master of the Water Pine and Stone Retreat in the Spring of 2014.
