To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, Patek Philippe launched a series of new models for the occasion, including the highly acclaimed and desired 5711, the complicated 5712 and the 5980, the first chronograph in the Nautilus family. In 2013, the 5980 received a luxurious upgrade in full pink gold and mounted on a pink gold bracelet, as offered in the present example.
Aside from its phenomenal presence, one will be sure to notice a small detail on the dial which makes the present watch even more remarkable - the printing of the text "Tiffany & Co.", the prestigious luxury retailer. Tiffany & Co is undoubtedly the most historic and prestigious luxury retailer in the United States. Established in 1838 by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John Young with a $1,000 loan from Tiffany’s father, the first store was opened in 1838 on Broadway, before later moving to their flagship location on 5th Avenue and being renamed Tiffany and Co. Tiffany & Co’s relationship with watches goes back to their earliest days, and they have reserved their horological partnership to the world’s two most preeminent watch brands, Patek Philippe and Rolex. Back in 1851, Antoine Norbert de Patek ventured to the North American market in search of the right retailer for his complicated pocket watches. Upon visiting the Tiffany boutique in New York, a firm handshake between him and Charles Lewis Tiffany started this legendary collaboration. To date, the two firms have worked together for over 170 years, and Tiffany & Co. remains the only official retailer in the United States to be entrusted with their signature stamped on a Patek Philippe timepiece.
