Reference 3800 was manufactured from 1981 to 2006 in a variety of styles. The model has now been replaced by Reference 5800.

The first Nautilus timepiece to start the collection appeared in 1976 and was created by the watch designer Gérald Genta. The design of the sporty Nautilus was inspired by sea vessels and their portholes in particular. Rapidly the Nautilus became the embodiment of a powerful and casually elegant timekeeping design that would later become an iconic model in Patek Philippe's collection.
