The firm Patek Philippe introduced the Nautilus in 1976 following the designs of Gérald Genta and in doing so created one of the most iconic and classic wristwatches of the late 20th century.
In this painting produced in 2009 a mature Gérald Genta creates a vivid impression of Patek Philippe’s iconic Nautilus. The solidity of the watch with its blue dial on the left hand side creates a prominent contrast with a background in red, orange and yellow tones defined by quick brush strokes and exuberant lines that create an organic and expressive pattern.
The Nautilus is arguably the most collectable and popular watch made by any manufacture anywhere in the world it is coveted by celebrities, personalities, influencers and top watch collectors. The present painting, a unique vision by Gérald Genta of his own legendary design sheds light on the creativity and artistic power of the Picasso of watches.
