The Reverso was launched in 1931 following a request a polo player made to Swiss entrepreneur César de Trey for a watch which would sustain the physical strain induced by the sport. The project was passed on to Jacques-David LeCoultre, who came up with the patented reversible case design. The polo players could easily flip the case around to protect the watch face from impacts, revealing a personalized engraving to the back. The Reverso has been a classic since its inception with little to no change in its reversible case design.
The present lot, the reference 201 is a superb example of a early Reverso. It has also been recently serviced to the cost of over 4000 CHF with Jaeger-LeCoultre
