For many years, collectors would often value a watch based on how complicated the movement is and how accurate it can be to the exquisite level of finishing. However, in today’s competitive market of watchmaking, the smallest detail can result in a big difference in the eyes of a collector and this would often first be reflected in the external beauty of a timepiece which one would refer to as the face of the watch, or the dial. Understanding the importance of the dial, in the year 2001, François-Paul Journe purchased shares of a dial manufacturing company, Les Cadraniers de Genève. This action allowed him to execute his wildest dream of creating dials with various materials, setting his watches apart from the rest of his competitors.

The Chronomètre Holland & Holland is a watch of its own kind produced in a limited run of 66 pieces. The current watch utilizes Damascus steel of two 100 year old antique gun barrels provided by the century-old British gunmaker, Holland & Holland. As a result, each of them has a unique steel pattern that is mesmerizing to all watch enthusiasts.
