Representing an era of revolution, the 1970s was a period of many significant transitions for the Swiss manufacturers, from formal timepieces to luxurious sports watches with greater functional purposes. While Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet had benefited from Gerald Genta’s design of the Nautilus and Royal Oak respectively, Vacheron Constantin had hired Jorge Hysek to create its version of a luxurious sports watch and the result was the Vacheron Constantin 222 that had led to the creation of the currently popular Overseas collection.
The present example offering, is a piece similar to the Patek Philippe reference 3800. Featuring a boy-size case and powered by the calibre 1124 an ultra movement allows the watch to hug the wrist and slip under the cuff with great poise.
