Speaking of attractive bold designs, the reference 5951 is surely one of the contenders amongst Patek Philippe watches. Introduced in 2010 at Baselworld, immediately many collectors would draw direct comparison with its famed predecessor reference 5020 because of its classic Art Deco tonneau-shaped design harnessing the perpetual calendar chronograph complication.
However, it would not be Patek Philippe if the novelty did not shock the horological community. The calibre CHR 27-525 in the reference 5951 is the world’s thinnest column-wheel-controlled split seconds chronograph. And with the addition of a sophisticated perpetual calendar module, it is the thinnest perpetual calendar split seconds chronograph ever crafted by the firm. Another layer of complexity offered in the watch is the single button chronograph instead of the conventional two pushers.
Produced during the 5-year production span, the present lot is a fine representation of pure class and style, importantly displays Patek Philippe’s leadership in manufacturing highly complicated pieces.
