Patek Philippe’s Grand Complication collection has incredible depth from split seconds chronographs to renowned complications such as minute repeating and tourbillons. Often considered as grail watches, obtaining one of these watches from the legendary manufacturer is a dream for many connoisseurs. Not one, but two Grand Complications in a wristwatch requires painstaking research and development, however once again Patek Philippe showcased their incredible mastery.
The story of combining tourbillon and minute repeaters, namely the two most important complications in horological history started from the reference 3939 in 1993. At that time, it was a shock to the watches community for the Swiss maison to release such an amazing yet complicated timepiece. It went on and became one of their most coveted lineages to date.
Until 2013, the present reference 5539 was launched with modern upgrades whilst having small details reminiscent to its predecessors. Using the same movement RTO 27 PS as the 3939, it is housed in an enlarged officer-styled case, paying homage to watches design during the mid 20th century. Not to mention the elegant Breguet numerals together with the black enamel dial showcases the paragon of precise craftmanship.
