The world time complication was introduced in 1884, but it was not until 1931 that Louis Cottier invent a watch movement able to show 24 time zones simultaneously. Perhaps one of the world's most extravagant world time zone wristwatch, the reference 5131 combines this traditional complication with the art of cloisonné enamel.

First introduced in 2008, the reference 5131 would feature different parts of the world map on its cloisonné enamel for a different metal setting. For example, the yellow gold version would feature the Americas, Europe and Africa, while the present pink gold version would display the Asia, Oceania and America. These subtle differences and the art of enamelling would be highly sought after by collectors. In 2019, the brand new reference 5231 was introduced to be the successor of the reference 5131, moving the Patek Philippe logo from an engraving on the bezel to the cloisonné enamel dial. Still a very collectible piece, the present example is offered in a superb double factory seal along with all original accessories.
