embossed on both sides in high relief with baroque scrollwork and flowers enclosing crowned cartouches containing engraved armorial devices, scallop shells at the base all on matted ground, the spine with foliate strapwork, openwork clasps, apparently unmarked, now fitted with a blank book with gilt edges
