The hand clutching the baseball joined with dowel construction to the shaft, holding an interior note inscribed From Hand Rail of the Merimac 1884 / 1884 JaJ. With wording below carved CARWINN 7TH. PEN. VOL. 1861-65. The lower section carved SAM WINN.
