The arms are those of Scheu.
The connection between the Sheu family and the guild of Furriers in Sibiu has not been established but the word Scheu was a medieval occupational name for a sheep-shearer, or someone who trimmed cloth. In the Pannwitz collection catalogue of 1905 there is mention of a medallion inside the tankard.
Hans Henssel of Sibiu (Hermannstadt) became a master goldsmith in 1604 and there are references to him until 1632. This present tankard is his only recorded work to have been identified.
