Description
Captain Bertram Newton Ogle
List signed and certified by Ogle
of articles supplied to Captain Ogle's company of the 9th Foot, part of General Pollock's force sent to relieve the British captives held at Kabul in 1842, comprising a list of articles supplied to his men (quilts, blue trousers, check shirts etc.), a roll of the eighty-eight surviving men in the company, signed by each, a diagram of the formation taken by the army on entering the pass and autograph notes by Ogle of the posts on their route and elevations reached, 7 March 1842, "At the foot of the Khyber", 5 pages, folio, spotting
Material relating to Pollock's campaign is rare. Ogle's company was, according to his plan of battle, at the head of the force that stormed the Khyber Pass. It is interesting to note that all of the eighty-eight men under his command before the storming of the pass were able to sign their names.
