The present hand painted design, Mickey Mouse watch made especially for the Handover of Hong Kong is very sentimental to the Genta family. As regular visitors to Hong Kong, Gérald and Evelyne were very impressed by the importance of the event of the Handover of Hong Kong. At the time, Genta Mickey Mouse watches were already extremely popular across the region, prompting Gérald to create a special commemoration series of 100 men’s and 100 ladies’ watches with Mickey holding the three flags of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and China.

The series was released in shops in Hong Kong one week before the Handover and sold out completely in just two days. On 1 July 1997, Gérald and Evelyne were in Hong Kong and watched the very historical moment of the Handover on television from the Kowloon Peninsula Hotel.
