This design from the famous watch designer depicts a perpetual calendar desk clock. Unlike most clocks of the genre, this particular example stands out because of the uncommon shape for such a timepiece. The watch sits on an octagonal base beautifully decorated with golden floral pattern. The dial of the clock is made of gold an is set with a lapis lazuli sub-dial for the moon phases.

Gérald Genta produced desk clocks based on this very design. Slightly differing from this design, 'The Auspicious Octagonal Centerpiece' sold by Sotheby's in 2013 shows many commonalities with this piece.

Gérald Genta stated on different occasions that this very design for the clock was his favourite one. It took him a week to paint it as it was so intricate.

When it was revealed to the original purchaser, a King in the Middle East, this one asked that the enamel, originally blue, was made in a beautiful green enamel.
