Within the history of the Rolex Datejust, the Reference 16233 holds a special place. Produced between 1988 and 2004, it was the first Datejust model to feature a sapphire crystal, instead of a plexiglass, and was fitted with the new 3135. The model was presented with a large selection of different dials, making it particularly exciting to hunt. This present example, made during the first year of introduction of the model, is fitted with an unusual and attractive pyramid dial with applied Roman numerals. Combined with the two-tone case and jubilee bracelet, it perfectly captures the aesthetic of the late 1980's.
