Description
The series of interlocking textured rectangular links, highlighted by bands of single-cut diamonds and further set with topaz crystals, British hallmarks and sponsor's marks.
In 1946 H.J. Company was founded, with Grima initially joining on a temporary basis. In 1947 he began experimenting with organic forms such as bark and encasing plaster of Paris, but the true catalyst for his artistic revolution came in 1948 when Brazilian dealers came to H.J. Company with semi-precious gemstones. This allowed him to explore and push the boundaries of the bold style which were prevalent in his early painted designs.
A bracelet of similar design to this brooch, set with peridots and diamonds, is now in the collection of Goldsmiths' Hall, London. Further examples of his work can be found in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
