Meiji period, late 19th century 


hanging scroll: ink on paper, signed Seisei nyudo Kyosai ga and sealed Kyosai, depicting a solitary crow in winter perched on the branch of gnarled plum in blossom, circa 1880s, silk brocade mounts; with fitted wood storage box (tomobako) with attestation by the artist's daughter, Kawanabe Kyosui (1868-1935), dated Showa gonen aki (Autumn 1930), signed Kyosui kan (authenticated by Kyosui), and sealed Kawanabe Toyo in and Kogetsuan
