Three surimono

Edo period, 19th century


each a woodblock print, surimono, embellised with metallic pigments and embossing, and comprising:

- The actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII in the role of the Conqueror of the Dragon, signed Toyokuni ga (Pictured by Toyokuni), privately issued circa 1818

- Tao Yuanming (Toenmei) and Chinese landscape, from the series Ten Designs for the Honcho Poetry Circle (Honchoren juban tsuzuki), signed Gakutei, sealed Sadaoka, privately issued early 1820s

- White horse, sealed Yanagawa, privatley issued circa 1822


The first, horizontal chuban: 18.7 x 23.6 cm., 7½ x 9¼ in.

The second surimono, shikishiban: 21 x 18.9 cm., 8¼ x 7¼ in.

The third surimono, shikiban: 20.9 x 18.8 cm., 8¼ x 7¼ in.
